“BROKEN” (single release)

Vancouver, CAN. ~ March 25th, 2019

As I sit in my red, vinyl bean bag chair, headsets on, cord attached to the turntable….

I have learned that when Focus Your Audio (Bobby McAloney, Sarah Stewart) send me a new song to review, that I need to set aside a quiet time to listen. Their music has an impact and a message that I don’t want to miss.

The first time I listened to their newly released song “Broken”, my body was shivering with chills and stayed that way for the entire song. The second time I listened to it, I felt all these emotions being pulled up out of me, with a desire to cry out. The third time I listened to it, I felt free and hopeful. A bare soul set of lyrics, delivered with honest intensity.

“I’m feeling broken.”  “Living someone else’s lies.” “Cut me open, look inside take my sin away. Hold the mirror until I see the past fade away.”

“Broken” is one of the most powerful set of lyrics that I’ve ever heard.  The whole song, personally describes my own experiences from being broken. And, how I actually ended up writing music reviews and blogs. I had to have the lies I believed about myself, exposed to The Light and healed. The beauty and strength of being broken.

I love the balance between Sarah’s impassioned voice and Bobby’s intricate guitar work.  They support and grow in intensity together. Initially, it’s very simple guitar chords and Sarah’s pleading voice, soothing your ears into the music. The repeating chorus of “I’m feeling broken”, really pulls you into the song.  Halfway through, Sarah’s voice grows with a courageous force, and Bobby’s guitar explodes onto the scene. You feel the power and strength being gained by their journey together of being broken. As the song closes, you are brought back to an intimate relationship with Sarah’s pure voice.

Raw. Intense. Honest. Powerful. Beautiful.

A perfect description of being Broken. Both musically and personally.

Another amazing masterpiece created by FOCUS YOUR AUDIO!
