Tobias the Owl ~ A Safe Harbor for Wayward Echoes

There are gifted songwriters. And then there is Elijah Dhavvan, who writes and records as Tobias the Owl, also serving as leader and guiding force to a collective performing under that name. Like most intuitive storytellers, Tobias/Dhavvan uses life itself as his primary source material, imbuing his lyrics with wisdom both prosaic and profound while making TTO’s music thoroughly accessible.

A Safe Harbor for Wayward Echoes might be the year’s most beguiling album, one propelled by a suitably arresting back story. Written as the now-Seattle-based Dhavvan was recovering from cancer, the album was recorded throughout 2017 at multiple studios including Los Angeles’s Carriage House with Gomberg abetting as producer, engineer, mixer and all-round sounding board.

Tobias The Owl’s A Safe Harbor for Wayward Echoes will be released on Megaforce Records on August 24. The album features special guests Ben Harper, Laura Veirs and Inara George, and was produced, engineered and mixed by Grammy Award winning Sheldon Gomberg (Warren Zevon, Rickie Lee Jones, Ryan Adams). Other TTO collaborators on A Safe Harbor for Wayward Echoes include violinist/violist Andrew Joslyn (Macklemore, David Bazan), percussionist Scott Seiver (Aimee Mann, Tenacious D), the before-mentioned Jonah Tolchin on vocals and guitar, and fast-rising Seattle performer Gabriel Wolfchild (vocals). Dhavvan brought acoustic guitar and keyboards in addition to handling all lead vocals.
