“Brace For Impact”
(new album by CUSTOM)

I appreciate all genres of music. What I listen to, depends on my mood and activity. One genre of music that I’m partial to, though, is ROCK. I always love hearing about a new band that is keeping the “LET’S ROCK!” energy alive. Seattle’s CUSTOM, is one of those bands. CUSTOM’s band members are: David Lyon – Lead Vocals, Corey Petro – Guitar, Scott Bickham – Guitar & Vocals, Paul Yarnold – Bass & Vocals, Brian Cochran – Drums.

After reading up on their bio, I was surprised to learn that they’ve been around for over 12 years. With such an authentic rock sound, why haven’t I heard of them? That’s what I say about a lot of local bands, though. Excellent musicians, but it’s just so hard and so competitive getting your music heard. So, I’m totally impressed that CUSTOM has hung in there, continuing to perform and produce. That shows true dedication and passion for their art.

CUSTOM’s latest album release, “Brace For Impact” is rock in its purest form. Hard hitting guitar solos, straight out of the gate. There is no slowly waking up. You are awoke immediately. The instrumentals are fresh and engaging. Simple straight rock, with powerful lead vocals. These are well seasoned musicians, who have the perfect understanding of how their music should work together. Your attention is immediately caught with the fantastic guitar solos, but then it quiets down and you are drawn into David Lyon’s vocals and his message. Followed by a perfect pass off to instrumental guitar and drum solos. Really excellent work. It’s consistent throughout the entire album.

After listening to the entire “Brace For Impact” album, there was a nagging in the back of my mind about who they reminded me of. It finally came to me. They reminded me of another legendary group of Seattle rock musicians, Queensryche. I actually saw Geoff Tate perform locally a couple of years ago. He gives straight forward rock with a strong vocal, delivering a message you hear and feel. Exactly what CUSTOM creates. David Lyon’s classically trained voice is the perfect addition to create that rock simpatico

CUSTOM is unapologetic rock, with just the basics of guitars and a drum, and I love it! It’s refreshing , in a day of computer generated music. Real music, with real instruments and real vocals.

This past weekend I was in Cleveland, Ohio at The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. A fantastic, interactive museum portraying the history of rock and roll. There are all kinds of classifications for rock. Heavy, classic, progressive, alternative, punk..CUSTOM is a blend of all those classifications.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, also had a special exhibit honoring DJ Dick Clark and his tv show, American Bandstand. He is the father of music reviews. The classic reviews on American Bandstand were always
“It’s got a good beat and you can dance to it.”

My American Bandstand style review of “Brace For Impact” by Seattle band CUSTOM would be: “It’s Made with great rock soul and makes me feel something.”

Definitely check out “Brace For Impact” being officially released on August 25, 2018

And you gotta love that their sponsor is Fireball Cinnamon Whiskey. I’ll take a shot of that!

LET’S ROCK!
